The Alpha and Omega of Balance

Generally, we think of balance in a linear way, with a centre point and extreme opposites holding either order or chaos. Of course, within this mindset, the slightest movement can tip the scale towards either side, making it almost impossible to achieve balance.

Because we know it is virtually impossible to maintain a motionless position perpetually, it is better to think of achieving balance as a circular concept, where the beginning becomes the end, and each issue is tackled individually.

Whether we look at physical balance, artistic balance, moral balance, family/work balance, or the balance between good and evil or dark and light, managing balance becomes easier when viewed circularly because, by keeping track of the whole circle, we can detect problems as they occur, making it easier to fix. We are also no longer fixated on either end being chaos or order.

This viewpoint allows us to improve negative situations one at a time. If we are struggling with depression or burnout, we deal with the issues of our past. If we are anxious, we rid ourselves of the fear of the future. When we see everything clearly, we attentively care for ourselves in a perpetual movement towards happiness through small changes that we make every day.

Our alpha is the beginning of happiness, while our omega is the satisfaction we find in seeing the results of our efforts to set up boundaries and make positive changes. When our circle is balanced, we experience true joy and fulfilment.
